As classmates at Denton High School, Kimberly Gomez ’25 and Brittney McVey ’25 were close friends and fellow members of the Fillies drill team.
Now, as first-year students at TWU, they are among the five recipients of the new Dieb-McDavid Scholarship, established by TWU alumna and System Regent Vice Chair Stacie Dieb McDavid ’80 and her husband, David McDavid.
The $100,000 gift covers four years of tuition and fees for five graduates of Denton High School who demonstrate a commitment to women’s leadership, graduate in the top half of their class with a 3.0 GPA or higher, and show financial need. Dieb-McDavid Scholars also receive mentorship and academic support from a scholarship manager.
Gomez—a self-described spreader of positivity—is considering a major in psychology.
“I really love learning about the brain and human behavior,” she says. “I have amazing professors that truly care for their students’ success. I have never in my life met faculty that have been so passionate about their jobs and students’ wellbeing.”
McVey is pursuing a bachelor’s in marketing, an outgrowth of her high school involvement with Business Professionals of America, where she served as president. She’s also editing for the TWU student newspaper The Lasso, and recently submitted a piece to a writing competition at the encouragement of English Assistant Professor Sarah Lennox, Ph.D.
“It was very meaningful to me to have her believe in my work,” McVey says. Eventually, she hopes to work in marketing for a sports or fashion brand.
Both credit the Dieb-McDavid Scholarship with providing needed support for their studies.
“Its generosity has provided me with a sense of stability in my future college endeavors,” says McVey.
Adds Gomez, “This scholarship truly means so much to me and still it feels so surreal that I’ve been given such an amazing opportunity.”.png?ver=bOacprtkP9IDky4luRBZMw%3d%3d)
